What is EMDR? What is EMDR with Horses?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is an evidence-based method designed to reprocess distressing memories, performance blocks, and stress responses using bilateral stimulation (alternating eye movements, taps, or tones). This method helps the brain and nervous system process information and complete its natural resolution response. EMDR with horses introduces a direct physical dimension. Horses respond continuously to nervous system state and biofeedback. Working alongside horses grounds attention in the body, providing real-time awareness and space for profound neurological processing.

What is an EMDR intensive?

An intensive is concentrated over several days instead of an hour a week and aim the processing work at specific targets that we define together. The shape can be a long weekend, several weekends, or something built around what your life can actually hold. An intensive can be done in conjunction with your current therapy. I'm glad to coordinate with you and your therapist as needed.

Who it's for?

EMDR intensives work best when targeting something specific rather than at a general wish to feel better.

You're gifted or 2e, and the words have outrun the body

High-achieving and neurodivergent minds excel at analyzing patterns. The intensive format moves past pure intellectualization to directly process somatic tension, sensory overload, and stored nervous system stress.

You've plateaued in therapy you value

The work has been effective, and then it stopped moving. Insight arrives; the body doesn't follow. Consecutive days can reach what weekly pacing can't.

A weekly appointment isn't something you can hold

Because you travel for work, or work shifts. Because you're a nurse, a pilot, a consultant, a rancher in season. Because you're home only over winter break, or you live two hours from Longmont. Or you have a chronic illness that makes it difficult to hold regular weekly sessions.

How is an EMDR intensive structured?

Each intensive is built around your goals. We set the structure together after a full assessment of where things stand, what you want to work on, and which constraints are real.

A free 15 minutes consultation call

This consultation call is an informal conversation where we can check if we are a good fit, if the EMDR intensive is the right way to work for you

Pre-Intake Questionnaire and assessment

You will receive and complete a detailed intake questionnaire about your background, current challenges, and the memories or themes we'd be targeting to work on.

Intake Session

We will meet for a 50-minute intake session to review your questionnaire and create a detailed EMDR intensive schedule, write down your goals and outcome measures to ensure we can accurately track your progress.

The intensive days

You will receive a detailed schedule, with reminders. We will meet at the farm, with the horses and goats and follow the agenda we will have put together. This includes activities with the horses, discussions on how to bring what you learned into your daily life. At the end of each day, we will debrief the day together and prepare for the next day.

Integration session

A follow-up to consolidate what moved, re-check the outcome measures, and decide together what continues.
