Support and Therapy Groups
Group for new adoptive parents
These groups are small education and support groups for parents and their recently adopted infants and young children. Groups run for 8 weeks for approximately 90 minutes. Come and learn about child development and issues unique to new adoptive families. The format will include games and activities. Issues such as sleeping, eating, toileting, limit-setting, sharing, etc. will be addressed. Call for more information and schedule – groups are scheduled on an ongoing basis. (Experience with horses is not required)
Groups for Adult adopted children
This group is a therapy group for adults who have been adopted during their childhood. The group includes therapeutic activities with horses and discussions. Participants are encouraged to explore their experience as adult adoptees and how adoption impacts and has impacted their lives. The groups run for 8 weeks for approximately 90 minutes. Call for more information and schedule – groups are scheduled on an ongoing basis. (Experience with horses is not required)
Support Group for adoptive parents and teenagers focused on relationships
These groups are small support groups for parents of teenagers and their child. The group includes activities and games with the horses, discussions where participants are encouraged to explore their relationships within and outside the family. (Experience with horses is not required)
Groups for adopted children (9-14)
This is a therapy group for adopted teen boys and girls. The group includes structured exercises with horses, therapeutic activities and open group discussion time to facilitate a dialogue about adoption-related issues; participants are encouraged to explore their own life story and their experiences related to adoption, as well as to hear about, validate and connect with other adoptees and their experiences. Thoughts and feelings about culture, identity, birth family, prying peers and other issues are explored. This group is fun and engaging but also a place to talk and express feelings about tough topics. Open to boys and girls ages 15-18. Group runs for approximately 8 weeks for 90 minutes. Call for more information and schedule – groups are scheduled on an ongoing basis. (Experience with horses is not required)
Groups for Adopted adolescents (15-18)
This is a therapy group for adopted teen boys and girls. The group includes structured exercises with horses, therapeutic activities and open group discussion time to facilitate a dialogue about adoption-related issues; participants are encouraged to explore their own life story and their experiences related to adoption, as well as to hear about, validate and connect with other adoptees and their experiences. Thoughts and feelings about culture, identity, birth family, prying peers and other issues are explored. This group is fun and engaging but also a place to talk and express feelings about tough topics. Open to boys and girls ages 15-18. Group runs for approximately 8 weeks for 90 minutes.
